Re:'Miss Representation' film addresses negative media images of women
I strongly agree with you on this. First of all, let me introduce myself. I am an Asian girl who was raised up in China and currently study at Penn State Abington. After reading your article, I went and watched 'Miss Representation' film, looked at those women and thought about those statistics according to "Miss Representation", I am depressed as a woman. How can this world be so strict with women? '78 percent of 17-year-old girls are dissatisfied with their bodies.' A lot of friends of mine, they eat weight loss pills of questionable source which is harmful to their bodies in order to keep themselves slim. A guy from high school was being judgemental and disrespectful and called my friend pig nose, she had a mental teardown in front of her mother. A few days after, she bought a ticket to Japan and had her plastic surgery done.
The International Telecommunication Union estimated about 3.2 billion people would be online by the end of the year. American teenagers spend a great of time on mass media every week. (Newsom)It impacts young people’s personality development and shapes society, politics, national discourse, and the image of gender and sex. Young people grow up seeing ideal stunner by photoshopping and being more judgmental on female bodies than knowing them in person. Advertisers get benefits from the misrepresentation. (Newsom)Most media earn their revenues from eye-catching advertising which contain violence, sex, and profanity by sensitive images of perfect S curve female body. It pushes the total revenue, purchasing desire and demand for skincare, body care products, luxury cars, whatever makes people more attractive. Under being affected by these, most of the women care about their appearances more than trying to be a better person.
Women’s participation in the workforce and politics remains relatively low, and women still are expected to perform all household, child-rearing activities, and be caregivers instead of trying to become leaders, CEOs, or politicians due to the misrepresentation of women. It's important to mention that after the industrial revolution, women started to participate in the labor force, however, what comes to the next is the inequity. For instance, female police officers are harder to be appreciated than male officers even if they did a better job, pink-collar workers gain lower salaries, married men usually get higher pay than married women etc.
Last but not least, I can see the power of girl is awakening from Snow White to Mulan. Especially Asian woman gets to play Mulan in a Hollywood movie, and Asian women don’t have to be like Madama Butterfly on the screen. I am surprised that there is such a great film in the United States. I appreciate that you wrote this article. It is such a great awakening.

Re:'Miss Representation' film addresses negative media images of women
After reading your article, I feel in the same way as you. However, I have something to say for male as a man. I grew up in a traditional American family, my father served in the military for twenty years and was considered as a muscular man. Not only women, but gender bias also affects men too.
George Orwell is my favorite author, I like his book "Animal Farm"the most. He said, "He wears a mask, and his face grows to it.."(Orwell)I feel like it is exactly talking about me. When I was in kindergarten, I prefer to play with a teddy bear instead of toy cars. Because of this, I was picked on by some bullies all the time, and they called me pussy. My dad told me that a man should never cry and took me to the basement, taught me how to throw jabs and punches to protect myself. He yelled at me and asked me to be a man in this culture. That explains why men are more likely to drink alcohol and involve in violent issues and risky behaviors in order to lock down the emotions. (Porter)* Probably I could become a famous tenor, performing at the Metropolitan Opera House where my passion at and enjoy the audiences applaud for me instead of being a football coach which I dislike.
Gender equity is often seen as a feminist issue(Hilton)*, on another hand, why do men have to pay for the meal to show manliness? Why are men always expected to provide financially as a family "breadwinner"? Is there a gender discrimination towards men? It's time for us to stand up for gender equity, not only women but also men. (Jenkins)*

I love writing about issues that I concern. I was good at writing in Chinese and in a Chinese way, after I went to an international school, I tried to translate Chinese into English in writing. It led my teachers from America always confused about my poetic sentences, they just can't get it. Since I have been in the US for such years, I talk in English in the most of time at high school and think in English. My writing in English gets improved. In my opinion, the Chinese way means to write with fancy words in poetic meaning. That makes me feel like my work in writing is floating in the air. I can say that eight hundreds of words can be concluded in one sentence. By contrast, American teachers told me even native speakers wouldn't know every single fancy word in English, it was useless. Afterward, I do research to build my article up, practice in MLA format. Now, my English writing is more professional than I was as a freshman at high school.
I learned and got to practice on the citation in MLA format, give credits to the source which is very important in American academic writing to avoid plagiarism. (Lunsford) Writing from different people's perspectives let me know one specific thing which can apply to my life*. I always argue with people in the comments of a Facebook article but barely think at other people's side. If I can consider more about they were raised in a completely different culture from mine, I wouldn't be so quick to judge if they are right or wrong. That is like diamond&water paradox, the value is subjective, and the value of an item is up to the person who is considering it. From now on, I would go and do some more research to make my comments more credible and persuasive, thinking at other people's side and write more relevant, polite and professional words. What do I learn more from the reserved reading? If you look back to *, I was going to use "our" instead of "my" which is my first intention. One challenge that can present itself for some ESL students, especially those from China, is having to learn to use the pronoun “I” instead of “we” in their American papers, creating a more individualistic sense of self in their writing. (Bruce & Rafoth)I was not able to find enough info from the reserved reading, Aliaksei searched the book online and found enough info on amazon such as published date, publication. I complete the info of the citation later. He also helped me out in some areas. He told me word limits are not to hurt you but to make you a better writer to get concise. I changed "engine teardown" into "mental teardown" also, translator sometimes gives the wrong answer, I should just trust myself in learning local English from listening to other people talking. Classmates' feedback helped me as well. Brandon's feedback impressed me the most. He let me write more specific about what stops women become CEOs, politicians like some other women would do. I didn't talk more about it because I actually forgot! That is a good point but due to the word limitation, I added "due to"to point out reasons.
In conclusion, I consider my writing skills in academic American writing got improved.

I believe my story is typical among Americans. Men are judged as well. I was bullied. You can feel in the same way and start to agree with me if you have a similar experience with me. A man only live for once, I have regrets in my life, I believe gender bias limited my possibilities to be a tenor and I want people in the society to treat Gender bias towards man serious.
